Pelican claims best in class for electric buses after Millbrook tests

Pelican has claimed that its zero emission single-deck buses are best in class in terms of energy efficiency, potential vehicle operating range and charging efficiency, following re-testing at Millbrook.

Ian Downie, head of Yutong Bus UK, says: “Our latest vehicles are now fitted with 422kWh water-cooled batteries rather than the previously tested vehicle which had air-cooled 295kWh batteries. Coupled with this, the vehicles now feature our Yutong Electric Safety System which has several safety features, including constantly circulating nitrogen over the batteries. This means that not only are they the most efficient, we have established new market-leading safety standards too.

“We retested an E12, destined for Newport Bus, at the ATAC testing facility at Millbrook using the ZEMO-accredited Ultra Low Emission Bus test. The certificate we have received shows we are best in class in terms of energy efficiency, potential vehicle operating range and charging efficiency. Our vehicles are a massive 77 per cent better in terms of ‘Well to wheel’ greenhouse gas emissions than a Euro 6 equivalent.

“With more Yutong single deck vehicles entering service in towns and cities across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, these results fully evidence the environmental, operational and safety benefits of our products and services.”
