First electric buses for the Caribbean

BYD has delivered the first electric bus fleet for public transport in the Caribbean with the Barbados Transport Board taking 33  buses for Bajan. Two further buses will be delivered in December for a total order of 35.

Barbados’ National Climate Change Plan aims to achieve the island nation’s goals for 100 per cent renewable energy and carbon neutrality by 2030.

The tender process was launched in August 2019 by the Transport Board for pure electric 10m buses, to provide new technology and sustainable transport solutions to Barbados.

The buses were specifically designed for the Barbados market and come equipped with wheelchair accessibility, wi-fi and USB charger connectors.
