BYD delivers 406 electric buses to Bogotá

BYD has delivered 406 electric buses to Bogotá where the electric bus fleet now includes 1,048 BYD electric buses. Claudia López, mayor of Bogotá, says, “A clean, green, sustainable, inclusive Bogotá, a Bogotá that improves every day for everyone. Today, the city has a new playground and 1,048 new electric buses from BYD on the road.”

The latest electric buses include 271 units of 9m buses with capacity for 50 passengers, and 135 12m buses with capacity for 80 passengers, serving on 14 routes. At the end of 2022, once the entire fleet of 1,472 BYD electric buses is operating, there should be a reduction of 94,300 tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to taking 42,000 private cars out of circulation in Bogotá.

Lara Zhang, regional director, BYD Latin America, adds: “BYD, as the world’s leading manufacturer of 100 per cent electric vehicles, continues to jointly implement technological solutions with its clients to improve the quality of life for Colombians. This new batch of electric buses will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, especially in the town of Fontibón and the southwestern areas of Bogotá, which are among the areas worst affected by pollution from fixed and mobile sources.”
